Sea, Pollica Confirmed to Be Summer Queen in Campania

Pollica is confirmed to be the 2013 summer queen, the only Campania location with five sails of the 2013 Italian environmental organization Legambiente and Touring Club's Guida Blu. The reason: being able to focus on environmentally friendly tourism and high quality holidays thanks to a sustainable management of an excellence land, to its landscape protection, to fully environmentally friendly services rendered and high quality wine and food.

On the regional podium together with Pollica, there are Anacapri ranking second and Praiano as third. In total, there are 24 locations of Campania in the Legambiente and Touring Club's Guida Blu and each one of them is worthy a choice for a short or long holiday, for a weekend trip or at least a quick visit.

Campania ranks sixth in the total classification, obtaining an average sail of 2.92 compared with last year 2.75 average.

After Pollica, Anacapri, Praiano, Positano and Castellabate are awarded four “sails”. There are 12 three “sails” locations, namely Capri, Camerota, Centola-Palinuro, Pisciotta, Ascea, Capaccio-Paestum, Cetara, Vibonati, Massa Lubrense, S. Giovanni Piro-Scario, Casal Velino and Sapri. Two “sails” for Vico Equense, Amalfi, Agropoli, Procida, Ischia and Sorrento.

The regional ranking ends with Vietri sul Mare and its one “sail”. Among the first ten positions, the Cilento area leads with six locations. Amalfi coast is also very good with two places such as Praiano and Positano among the first five positions, while the blue island has Anacapri that ranks second and Capri sixth.

The pride of Cilento, Pollica, together with its coastal locations such as Acciaroli and Pioppi, is committed to reduce water consumption through the implementation of a water purification plant that makes it possible to re-use it for non-drinkable use, particularly for the Port of Acciaroli.

Moreover, it leads the way to establish an international network to spread the Mediterranean diet as an economic model of sustainable development to protect and promote biodiversity, culture and tradition as the main strength. Implementation of systematic actions through good practices for local energy sustainability. Cilento citizens take a lot of care of the cleaning of coasts and sea bottoms; they recover wastes found by seamen and recycle them into the municipal waste separation area.

Regional Minister for Tourism and Cultural Heritage Pasquale Sommese stated: “This positive Legambiente and Touring Club's 2013 Guida Blu opinion for the Campania coast locations is a further acknowledgment for our region”. Mr Sommese pointed out: “After leading in the South, with 13 blue flags, of which 10 to the Cilento area, 2 in the province of Naples and 1 for the Amalfi Coast, we achieved another success, whose importance relies on the ability to offer high quality holidays through the local sustainable management, excellent wine and food itinerary, the landscape protection, and, generally speaking, fully environmentally friendly services rendered. This is another important confirmation. But, we have to and we are able to do even more. Over the next months, we will work hard on enhancing the services offered, being aware that our 520 Km coast is the real resource for the economic growth of Campania. Tourist districts, we are focusing on together with private stakeholders, are the right reply to invest on these locations, simplifying procedures and setting the right and suitable conditions, as well as useful opportunities to attract tourists all year long to enjoy the so-called “Campania product”, a real open air museum – the Regional Minister concluded.
