Coffee, the production chain works and must be developed

Today the first meeting of the technical taskforce of the coffee production chain took place at Palazzo Santa Lucia; it is promoted by president Caldoro’s councillor for Productive Activities and Economic Development Fulvio Martusciello.

The initiative puts itself in the wake of the activities that the Regional Administration for Productive Activities and Economic Development of Regione Campania is developing in relation with a strategic sector for the regional entrepreneurial texture. In effect, the coffee sector has registered gratifying results in the last years, an opposing trend if compared to the general economic situation. In 2011, the sales volume of the sector abroad has been ca. 275 million Euros, while in 2012 the trend appears to be growing by 13% compared to the previous year.

The technical taskforce opens a dialogue with the territorial institutions and the firms operating in the sector, with the purpose of fostering the aggregation of businesses in clusters, and promoting and valorising the production system. The meeting was attended by the representatives of important business realities, among which Caffè Kenon, Paskà srl, Caffen srl, Greren Line, Caffè Toraldo, Resi Bras, Kimbo, Incas.
The taskforce has defined the first strategic objectives to be reached for the valorisation of the sector:

  • Promoting the establishment of a network of brands through the identification and belonging to a typical local production recognized also abroad;
  • Developing marketing actions to promote and support the business cluster, also attracting new investments in the region’s territory;
  • Improving the logistics possibilities of the Region, through the systematisation of what already exists by port authorities;
  • Adopting temporary management solutions in favour of the SMEs involved, in order to spread competencies and knowledge, and subsequently elaborate specific innovation programmes.

Partners of the project are: the Port Authority of Naples, the Chamber of Commerce of Naples, the Unione degli Industriali of Naples and Campania Innovazione, as subject implementing the actions in favour of the firms of the sector.

"Today a new strategic district of the agroindustrial sector – Martusciello underlines – sees the light, that of Neapolitan coffee.

With the establishment of the Taskforce, Regione Campania intends to express a concrete action for being close to the businesses of the sector, in order to make it possible to share the programmatic interventions, together with entrepreneurial associations and other territorial players”, Martusciello concluded.
